University of Limerick

ul_aerial_view

The University is situated on a superb riverside campus of over 133 hectares with the River Shannon as a unifying focal point. Outstanding recreational, cultural and sporting facilities further enhance this exceptional learning and working environment. The University of Limerick campus is located 5km from Limerick City. The University is a smarter travel campus: with the support of Limerick Smarter Travel, the University is committed to the promotion of sustainable modes of transport including walking.

The University is home to the National Self Portrait Collection and the Watercolour Society of Ireland. Located mainly in the Foundation Building and Plassey House, these collections can be viewed during office hours.

Explore the campus

Take a relaxing walk/cycle around our beautiful campus which nestles on the banks of the river Shannon. Stroll over the spectacular Living Bridge and enjoy the river views and natural habitat. A network of over 14km interconnecting pathways and trails provides the leisure walker with ample opportunity to engage with and experience the landscape and environment of the campus. Pathways north and south of the river make their way through riparian meadow and woodland while expansive views of the river can be had from the Living Bridge and the University Bridges.

The Living Bridge, the longest pedestrian bridge in Ireland has become an iconic feature of the campus. It consists of seven 50 metre spans on which are located four sheltered platforms. These are designed as resting or refuge places for walkers, for social gatherings, informal classes or music or dance performances making it a veritable living bridge. The bridge curves over the river reflecting the flow of the river itself. Consequently and unusually, the end of the bridge is not in sight when you step onto it. The bridge is particularly beautiful at night when illuminated by various colour schemes.
